How to remain emotionally healthy and stress free

At times life can become very demanding with juggling a career, raising a family, and having other obligations to the point that you forget to take care of yourself. There are four tools you can utilize to help you remain emotionally healthy in a stressful world.Know Yourself
It is easy to forget who you are when life is tugging you in every direction. However, you must remember what you stand for. What are your goals and aspirations? What boundaries have you set for yourself? At times, you will have to learn how to say no. You cannot please everybody. Keep in mind your goals and aim towards achieving them through being proactive.

Connect with the right people
It is okay to vent to friends but ensure they have your best interest in heart. The people you hang around have the most influence on your life. Hanging around toxic people can increase your stress levels. Surround yourself with people that
will inspire you to persevere and that will give you positive, uplifting advice. Stay away from people that are intimidated by your success.

Be in control of you
Be in control of your emotions by having a mind of your own. Do not let anyone try to stir you away from accomplishing your dreams and aspirations. Gain control over your emotional health by disconnecting from social media and people. One day try to go without your phone for several hours and tell friends and family that you are disconnecting until 5:00 pm or whenever you are mentally ready to reconnect. This will make you more focused and leave you feeling more relaxed and energized.Balance positive and negative stress
Not all stress is necessarily bad. According to the American Addiction Resource Centers, positive stress, or eustress is a change that is not harmful but exciting to you. For example, getting married, having a baby, or starting a new job. Positive stress allows us to concentrate more and improves our overall daily routine. Negative stress or distress is a change that most people have a hard time accepting. For example, going through a financial crisis, coping with the death of a family
member, or going through a divorce. Being able to balance the positive with the negative, will allow you to feel less stressed out and more in control. You can balance positive and negative stress by writing down your thoughts and feelings. Journaling is a great way to express how your feeling and is an effective way to relieve stress. Other coping mechanisms of stress you can engage in is going for a walk, listening to calm music, taking a yoga class, or even going to talk with a counselor. Learn to accept the things you cannot change and change the things you have control over.A
